What’s So Special about Cuticle Care?
At first glance, our Cuticle Care might look like any other balm. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find a whole lotta magic in a little (adorable!) tin.
Philosophy of formulation
Here at Badger, we make products for the people we love and then share them with the world. Our Cuticle Care is no exception. Back in 2004, our founder Badger Bill asked his daughter Emily what product she’d like Badger to make. She said she wanted a Cuticle Care balm to smooth and soothe her fingers after working in the garden.
And that’s how Cuticle Care came to be.
What makes it so special?
If you’ve ever tried Cuticle Care you likely already know the answer to this question: it’s the shea butter! When you crack open a brand new tin of Cuticle Care you might notice little “beads” just under the balm’s surface. Those beads are actually micro-pockets of shea butter, which immediately melt when they come in contact with your skin.
Organic shea butter provides the extra-soothing element for healthy, happy cuticles.
And this is what sets Cuticle Care apart from our other balms. All of Badger’s Balms feature organic extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, and castor oil. But Cuticle Care has shea butter as the very first ingredient, in addition to the other moisturizing ingredients. This makes Cuticle Care ideal for year round care.
Why not cuticle oil?
Cuticle oils are awesome, and they certainly get the job done. However beeswax – which is what transforms oil into balm – does more than thicken the product.
Beeswax creates an ultra-thin layer on top of the skin, which helps to lock in moisture. So after you’ve smoothed the rich, moisturizing ingredients into your cuticles, beeswax helps to seal that moisture in.
What does it smell like?
Overall it has a light citrus smell with rose geranium and ginger undertones. Therefore I would describe the aroma as fresh, light, and a little floral.
Our special blend of essential oils includes rose geranium, mandarin, ginger, lemongrass, cardamom, rosemary verbenone, and listea. There are no hidden fragrance ingredients and once applied the essential oils evaporate into the air around you, leaving only a light fragrance on your hands.
Seabuckthorn extract doesn’t contribute to the fragrance but it does serve a key purpose. It contains a bounty of naturally-occurring antioxidants and vitamin C.
How do I use it?
Cuticle Care is an ideal addition to any nighttime ritual. Mine lives on my nightstand because it’s the very last thing I do before falling asleep. I use it as a reminder that self-care is always important, even if it’s only for 5 minutes a day.
Apply Cuticle Care balm directly to your fingernails and cuticle bed. Because it is ultra-concentrated, a little goes a long way... so use sparingly! And if you apply too much, you can massage any extra balm into hands and arms. In fact, you could apply Cuticle Care to your whole body, if you wanted to!
Furthermore, you can apply Cuticle Care any time of the day. Many computer keyboards here at Badger have a glossy sheen because we apply it between writing emails (and blog posts).
