Introducing: A Super Concentrated, Conditioning Shampoo Bar!
Yup, that’s right. Shampoo in a solid form. Without the plastic bottle. Read on to learn how you too can 'suds up' with our new super concentrated, naturally conditioning, and biodegradable Shampoo Bar!
What is a shampoo bar?
Short answer: a bar of soap that is specially formulated to both cleanse and condition your hair.
If shampoo bars sound novel and new, the truth is they've actually been around for a few decades! Shampoo bars are a great way to gently cleanse your hair minus the harsh detergents sometimes found in liquid shampoos. And like all Badger products, this shampoo bar is made of pure, concentrated goodness, with only naturally nourishing ingredients. So it's better for you and the planet.
Why use a shampoo bar?
Hopefully, at this point, you’re pretty excited about trying a shampoo bar. But just in case you need a bit more convincing, here are a few more reasons to make the switch.
1.) It’s plastic-free!
Our Shampoo Bar is packaged in an FSC certified paper-board box so that you can say bye-bye to plastic shampoo bottles. We realize that while we still have a bit of road to cover to eliminate single-use plastic, we consider this a step in the right direction and are excited to do our small part by offering a plastic-free and biodegradable shampoo.
2.) Lasts a long time
Super concentrated, our Shampoo Bar lasts as long as a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo! Why does it last longer? Take a look at a bottle of shampoo and the first ingredient you'll see is water. Why pay for water when you can add it yourself? So, not only do shampoo bars last much longer than an average bottle of shampoo, but there's absolutely no plastic packaging used.
Pro tip: to get the most uses out of your bar, be sure to keep it dry between shampoos.
3.) Made with only natural, plant-based ingredients
Most liquid shampoos use stabilizing ingredients and harsh detergents, such as sulfates and parabens. At Badger, our formulations are based on a simplistic approach to skincare, and we never compromise on ingredients. It's why you'll only find natural, plant-based oils, such as jojoba and baobab, in our Shampoo Bar. And why our bar is also biodegradable, triple-milled, vegan, certified cruelty-free, and made with 85% organic ingredients. The health of your hair and scalp is as important to us as it is to you!
4.) Travel-friendly & multi-purpose
Our new Shampoo Bar not only cleanses and conditions your hair, but it also doubles as a body bar, making it perfect for travel—and being TSA-friendly is definitely a perk. I personally love taking this bar to the gym, camping, and anywhere else my travels take me (and so does National Geographic)!
5.) Simply delightful
One of the first questions I asked before making the switch was “does it lather up like a liquid shampoo?” Luckily, the answer is yes, in fact, I quite prefer the gentle suds, and I really enjoy the aroma. If you're familiar with our Navigator Class line, you're in for a treat. With organic essential oils of Bergamot, Cardamom, Sandalwood, Vetivert, Black Pepper, and Myrrh, the aroma of our Shampoo Bar is delightfully mild and fresh with a warm, earthy afternote.
How can you get the most out of your Badger Shampoo Bar?
Rub the shampoo bar directly on wet hair and gently massage into your hair and scalp. If you have long hair, start at the top, create a rich lather, and then work your way down.
Or,
Rub shampoo bar between your hands to create a rich lather then massage into scalp and hair.
My favorite technique is to both lather the bar between my hands and gently rub it on top of my head.
Rinse clean!
Be sure to rinse your hair thoroughly. You can dry and style your hair as usual, or you can follow up with a conditioner or apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse. Our bar is cold-pressed, and cold-pressed bars are rich in natural oils, which means you might need a clarifying rinse (like an ACV) to make sure it’s all out. ACV also helps to seal the outer layer of the hair follicle, known as the cuticle, resulting in shiny hair. An ACV rinse can be especially helpful if you're new to shampoo bars.
Making your own ACV rinse at home is really easy. Just mix 1 to 4 tablespoons of ACV with 8 ounces of water in a spray or squeeze bottle. Apply to wet hair, leave in for a couple of minutes, rinse, towel dry, and you're good to go! I like to use a little over 2 tablespoons in my ACV mix, so don’t hesitate to experiment to find a dilution that works best for your hair type.
Pro tip: following up with a Badger Hair Oil is another great way to add a conditioning step, with or without an ACV rinse.
Gentle enough to work with any hair type
Our Shampoo Bar is suitable for all hair types and hair lengths. However, everyone's hair is unique, so what works for one person, may not work for another. Folks with short hair report having great success no matter what type of hair they have, while those with long (or short), fine, thin hair can experience tangling or frizz. The best way to find out is to try it!
If you've never used a shampoo bar before, you may experience a transition period (up to 2 weeks) as your hair and scalp adjust to a new routine—one that's detergent-free. So stick with it.
Remember...
Healthy-looking hair comes from living a healthy lifestyle. So in addition to using shampoo with plant-based ingredients, it's also important to drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, and protect your hair from heat and UV rays.
