Philosophy of Formulation

We make products for people we love then share them with the world.

Badger Family Inspiration

Badger products are inspired by the needs of our friends, family, and community. We work directly with an internal “product champion” who represents the inspiration and who provides personal feedback on products as we formulate them. This close personal connection helps us to put our values first and foremost throughout the product development process. Examples:

• Family Members: Sore Muscle Rub, Rose Beauty Balm, Baby Care, and Aromatic Chest Rub.

• Badger Employees: Sunscreens, Bug Repellents, and Mom Care.

• Badger Community: Classic Lip Balms and Unscented Products.

Badger Bill - Creation of new products

At Badger we formulate simple products inspired by traditional medicine and the healing power of nature. We work with our product champions, internal focus groups, customer surveys, and market research to build a complete understanding of the need that we are addressing with each new product.

Combining the magic of ancient plant lore with modern scientific understanding of natural botanicals and other simple ingredients we create superfood products for the skin, rich in naturally occurring antioxidants and nutrients. We believe that people should treat their skin with kindness by using healthy products that protect and nourish.

Badger Healing Art

Art plays a key role in the creation and, we believe, the efficacy of every Badger product. Careful thought and intention goes into the creation of each illustration, to ensure that the final Badger creating is a kind and healing force to those who use our products.

Many of the Badger illustrations are based on a real-life story, such as the sea-faring Badger that uses kindness as her compass guiding her through the night storms into a beautiful sunrise, based on a story from family owner and Co-CEO Rebecca Hamilton’s days working at sea. Others possess subtle hidden depth, such as the Sleep Balm Badger that fell asleep reading a book by the haiku poet Basho. In all cases, the original Badger artwork is created with the intention of strengthening the impact of the final product.

Apothecary Badger - Philosophy of Formulation

Badger was founded on the simple principle of creating helpful products that real people need.

Badger Bill made his very first balm to heal the cracks in his own hard-working carpenter’s hands. Our product offerings and company grew over the years, but to this day we still formulate our products to help people that we love and when they’re ready, offer them to the world. This results in a fundamentally different approach than just creating products based on market data. By focusing on a loved one we never compromise on safety, quality, or the good that we hope that product will offer. In addition, our connection to nature guides our product development process and inspires us to create powerfully pure body care products made from fresh whole botanicals brimming with life force.
